Jo & Paul comments...

We spent a lot of time searching for the right photographer as were really keen to find someone with a natural reportage style and were lucky enough to stumble across Nick's portfolio. He was fantastic to work with, really flexible, perfectly capturing the day and all it's little idiosyncrasies as well as the more formal shots for the in-laws! Taking hundreds of pictures, Nick manages to be totally unobtrusive and makes you feel really comfortable which is what you want on your big day. The album is beautiful. Thanks Nick - Wedding photographer of the year 2008 is well deserved.

Ben & Cheng Moey, 7th June 2009, Gosfield Hall

Ben and Cheng held their wedding at Gosfield Hall in the Grand Salon followed by drinks in the library and grounds, and their wedding breakfast was held in the very grand ball room. I drove through torrential rain on my way to the wedding so I was fearing for the worst. Fortunately the sun did come out later in the day and the evening was beautiful. Thank you to Sonya at Gosfield Hall for organising such a seamless event. And thanks to Nic, my new assistant for working so hard, you did just great. Here are just a selection of my favourite wedding photographs from the day-

Photographers FAQ's

WHAT CAMERA DO YOU USE?
I use Canon 5D's, which are in my opinion the best camera in the world for weddings. As far as lenses go I only use L series lenses. I use Canon 580 EX II flashes and a Canon ST-E2 to fire them.

DO YOU USE FLASH TO LIGHT YOUR IMAGES?
I use ambient light whenever possible. If there is just not enough I use bounced flash and off-camera flash, sometimes I mount them on light-stands. If I do use direct flash I use a diffuser as I find the 580 EXII a little strong at times.

DO YOU SHOOT RAW OR JPEG?
I shoot entirely in RAW and edit the RAW files.

HOW DO YOU PROCESS YOUR FILES?
I use my own actions that I've developed over the years. This way my work is consistent and easily recognised. I only use Photoshop for editing and I use the dodge and burn tools a lot!

WHAT ALBUMS DO YOU USE?
I use a mixture of Mario Acerboni Albums, Loxley Wedding Books, Albums Australia, Queensbury and Graphistudio.

DO YOU NEED AN ASSISTANT?
Yes. I have a handful of second shooters and assistants that work with but I'm always looking for somebody special who's basically my photography twin.

HAVE YOU HAD ANY TRAINING?
Yes and No. I studied fine art which included photography. In those days it was all film and darkrooms. Most of what I know I have taught myself through theory and practice. I've read a lot of books but you can't beat learning on the job.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION?
I draw my inspiration primarily from high-end fashion, bridal magazines, and I'm constantly looking at other photographers work. I have a huge collection of tear sheets and files that inspire me but my best work comes from my own ideas. I just do what I think looks good and luckily my clients agree. I'm always trying to recreate a new image and try something new with each wedding.

DO YOU SHOOT ANYTHING OTHER THAN WEDDINGS?
Yes, but not a lot. I have a few contracts but to be honest these are extra as weddings keep me very busy through out the year.
